evening at the Barony Castle Hotel for 4 nights dinner, bed and breakfast

Day 2 Tuesday

The Scottish Borders is our destination today. First we visit Melrose
and later follow the Tweed Valley to Kelso. Nearby we visit the impressive Floors Castle,
home to the Duke of Roxburgh. Scotland’s largest inhabited castle and full of works of
art and fine antiques

Day 3 Wednesday

This morning we head for Tweedbank and Galashiels where we
join the Borders Railway – newly built, opened in September 2015 – for a journey of
under an hour following the route of the oft lamented Waverley Route, closed in 1969.
We spend the day in the City of Edinburgh, an opportunity to discover the host of
attractions or the shops on Princes Street. The city is dominated by the magnificent
Edinburgh Castle, an ancient fortress built on a volcanic crag. It is the most visited
attraction in Scotland. Attractions include the gardens on Princes Street, the Old Town,
The Royal Mile leading to Holyrood House and much more. In the afternoon we return
by train to connect with the coach to the hotel.

B, D

Day 4 Thursday

We have a short ride into Peebles for a morning free to explore the
town and obtain lunch. This afternoon we pay a visit to nearby Traquair House. Dating
back to 1107 and Scotland’s oldest inhabited house, Traquair was originally a hunting
lodge for Scottish Kings and Queens, but today the beautiful house provides a magical
and romantic setting with extensive grounds, maze, craft workshops and the famous
Traquair House Brewery

Day 5 Friday

We leave after breakfast and begin the journey home

B=Breakfast, D=Dinner

The tranquil natural beauty of the Borders and the Tweed Valley: the numerous, intriguing attractions of Edinburgh, Scotland’s fine capital city: a visit to Floors Castle with the works of art and fine antiques of the Duke of Roxburgh: Traquair House, inhabited since 1107 and probably the best experience – the journey on the Borders Railway, the remarkable rebuilding

of part of the much-missed Waverley Route.
