Return journey on the Seaton Tramway (not February)

Day 1

Cross Salisbury Plain and see country towns in
Somerset on the way to Sidmouth. 4 nights dinner, bed &
breakfast at the Royal York & Faulkner Hotel.

D

Day 2

Half day (morning) tour to Exeter, the city
dominated by its Norman Cathedral. Time for shopping
and sightseeing. In the afternoon, free time in the resort
to appreciate its splendid Edwardian buildings and
wander through the narrow streets and alleys.

B, D

Day 3

Pass Lyme Regis, a scenic little resort on the
Jurassic Coast, then see West Bay where the popular
‘Broadchurch’ was filmed. Time in Seaton as well with an
included ride to Colyton and back on the Tramway*. (Note: Tram does not operate in February)
Using the track-bed of a former branch line, the 2’9’’ gauge
tramway opened in 1970 with a selection of saloons and
open-toppers. There is a lot of wildlife to be seen in the
Axe Valley and Colyton station is a real gem.

B, D

Day 4

The River Exe divides East from South Devon and
we cross the river on today’s excursion. After Starcross,
which is famous for its connection with Brunel’s
‘Atmospheric Railway’, our road and the railway hug the
coast through Dawlish and Teignmouth. We continue to
Newton Abbot before visiting Torquay and Paignton.

B, D

Day 5

The journey home. Arrive back early this evening.

HIGHLIGHTS

On Lyme Bay and the East Devon Heritage Coast with its imposing red cliffs, here is a refined Edwardian resort with plenty of narrow streets and alleys to explore. The busy promenade is always a magnet for the town’s many visitors. The nearby coastal towns such as Seaton, where we ride on the tram*, and Lyme Regis are attractive too: the great city of Exeter has many

places of interest and resorts south of the Exe are visited on an excursion to Torbay.

Note * Tram does not operate in February
